The project is an addition to, and major renovation of, an existing home. The original 1940’s structure was expanded at least twice by the previous owners. In the 1970’s, a double-height Living Room and Entry Porch, by architect Dan Solomon, introduced a dramatic scale and a modern vocabulary. Curiously, in the 1990’s a circular master bedroom  in the Craftsman Style was added. The new owner sought not only to remodel and expand the house, but also to unify the home’s disparate elements into one cohesive whole. The double-height Living Room and Entry were preserved and expanded upon to form the living wing of the house, or “Living Bar”. The Master Bedroom addition was removed so that an identifiable “Bedroom Bar” was also created to house the new Master Bedroom, Children’s Bedrooms, and the Guest Room. Between the two Bars is common area: a Balcony with a view of Mt. Tamalpais and an open Loft overlooking the Living Room, for reading or playing billiards.
